How to Use Indigo Powder on Hair
For Black Hair
Step 1: Apply Henna
- Apply henna paste to clean, dry hair and leave for 2–4 hours.
- Rinse with water (no shampoo).
Step 2: Apply Indigo the next day
- Mix the Indigo powder with warm water into a smooth paste.
- Let it sit for 10–15 minutes.
- Apply immediately to hair (after henna), section by section.
- Leave on for 1–2 hours.
- Rinse with plain water. Avoid shampooing for 24–48 hours.
This method gives a deep black color.
For Brown Shades
- Mix henna and indigo in the desired ratio:
- 50:50 for dark brown
- 70% henna + 30% indigo for reddish brown
- 30% henna + 70% indigo for soft black
- Prepare henna first (let it sit for dye release 6–8 hrs), then add indigo right before application.
- Apply and leave for 2–3 hours.
- Rinse with water.
